League Rules

Arrival Coaches and players will arrive 30 minutes before game time and will meet in a coaching huddle with team.
Player Cards Players and coaches must show their player/coaches card to enter building. If a player does not show player card they are required to purchase a new card for $5.00 replacement fee or be suspended for the first game of the night.
Personal Basketballs No basketballs are allowed to be brought into the building. Official ABA basketballs will be used for games or warm-ups.
Pass Outs Pass outs are not allowed. Admission is $5 for non-players during the regular season and for special events. Full admission is charged for re-entry. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
Teams Teams consist of 8 players. Teams must have at least 4 players that are on the roster to start and end the game or forfeit.
Uniforms Fort Wayne's Best will provide game jersey and shorts. Game jersey must be worn and tucked in to play. No jewelry can be worn during game.
Game Management Games are two 20-minute halves with a 3-5 minute halftime with a running clock.  Game clock will stop during time outs and during dead balls when there is less that two minutes left in the game and the score difference is less than 10.  Substitutions done on dead ball situations only (subs report in at the scorers table). 7 second backcourt rule.
3-D Rule

The 3-D rule light is ON when...

  • The offensive team commits any turnover while the ball is in the backcourt.
  • When the 3-D rule light is on, an additional point is added to the point value of the field goal.
  • The 3-D rule light remains on until the team scores, attempts free throws for a personal foul, or the other team gains control of the ball.
  • When the defensive team commits a foul during the 3-D, the number of free throws awarded will be increased by 1
Time Outs Each team will get two time outs per game. Time outs will be 45 seconds. There will be no time outs in overtime.
Overtime Rules The 3:10 rule will apply in the first overtime period. The leader after 3 minutes or the first to 10 points wins. Second overtime is sudden death with jump ball from mid-court. 6th player foul status cancelled. The clock does not stop except for official time outs. 4th foul bonus. 2nd foul on a player in overtime is disqualification.
Technical Fouls

As this is a church, the following things will not be allowed: fighting verbally or physically, sagging or swearing, taunting, trash talking, or bad sportsmanship. First incident will result in conference with Program Director during non-league play. Second incident will reuslt in suspension from current game and the next game. A conference with Program Directors and League Commishioner during non-league play. Third incident will be at the discretion of Program Directors and League Commissioner which may result in suspension.

Fouls Players get 6 personal fouls. Team is in the bonus on the 7th foul.  Double bonus on the 10th foul.
Respect All officials, coaches, fellow players, fans, church property, and equipment. Because of the low fee for league participation, the other part of your payment to the league is to participate and show respect during coaching huddles with your team and group huddle.
General Rules
  • Fellowship is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Fellowship is not responsible for injury.
  • No loitering outside the building, qym, or concessions.
  • Restrooms are located at the far north end of the church.
  • League play will emphasize pure basketball skills, while eliminating "rough style" of play.
  • Officials should set a new and refreshing example by enforcing the rules of the game.
  • Players are expected to demonstrate a positive attitude at all times.
Fans

It is your responsibilty as a player to make this a safe environment. If you have fans that are not respectful, they will be removed. If you have fans that are abusing substances, they will be removed.

Players No alcohol use during league nights. No drug use during league nights. No weapons allowed in the church.
ABA Tryout Qualifications
  • Points scored will not be the biggest factor.
  • Remember that this is a team game and the ABA wants team players.
  • Your character and attitude will be the biggest thing evaluated.
  • Player must follow all league rules to remain eligible.
  • Player must be between 18-28 years of age at time of tryout.
  • Player must not have had any technical fouls.
  • Player must not have been involved in any fighting.
  • Player must show up and participate in team meetings.
  • Player must be in communication with coaching staff.
  • Player must conduct himself in a professional manner at all times.
